UF/IFAS WoodyBug - version 2.0

A Knowledgebase of Pest and Beneficial Arthropods
of Southeastern U.S. Woody Ornamentals

WoodyBug 1.0 was three years in the making. It featured a cast of billions and was a sweeping saga of sex, destruction and murder hidden behind the foliage of woody ornamentals in the southeastern United States. Now, you can own Woodybug 2.0, the sequel.

WoodyBug is a computerized, hypertext knowledgebase of pest and beneficial arthropds of woody ornamentals of the southeastern United States. The pests species are listed under the major categories of: aphids, borers, chewing insects, galls, lace bugs, leafminers, scales, spider mites, thrips and whiteflies. There is extensive Integrated Pest Management information that covers, in depth, such topics as host plant resistance, biologically compatible pesticides, scouting, monitoring and beneficial organisms. Florida ornamental extension agents who reviewed the program especially liked the detailed information and numerous color photographs devoted to biological control organisms.

WoodyBug contains information on pest biology, life cycle, identification, damage, management, and control. Each pest section now contains a link to the University of Florida's online Insect Management Guide. The main menu also serves as a graphical identification key to help non-entomologists identify which pest group is causing problems. Woodybug contains links to over 175 graphics and full-color color photographs as well as thousands of links to definitions of entomolgical terms

WoodyBug was initially funded by SHARE funds from Drs. Donald Short and Russ Mizell, entomologists at the University of Florida. In addition, funds received from the Office of the Dean for Extension at UF, and from Thomas Fasulo, also an entomologist at UF, allowed for the completion of the knowledgebase.

WoodyBug 2.0 runs on any computer with a CD-ROM drive and graphical World Wide Web browser software. Woodybug 1.0 only ran on Windows PCs. Woodybug 2.0 also contains updated and new information.

WoodyBug v. 2.0 (SW-119) costs $12. Quantity and reseller discounts available. Call the UF/IFAS Extension Bookstore at (352) 392-1764 or (800) 226-1764, or order online.
